Atlantic City Online Casinos Go Live With NJ Online Gaming Launch Tuesday

Online betting went legal at 12:01 a.m. this morning for six Atlantic City casinos. Now in league with Delaware and Nevada, New Jersey is looking forward to an increase in gambling revenue to help recover from a $2.2 billion decline in the industry over the past few years.

Seven casinos in Atlantic City had to endure a five-day trial period that began last Thursday. The trial was open to select gamblers, and more than 10,000 tested out different websites. Because gambling is state regulated, only those with New Jersey residences and of legal gambling age are allowed to bet online.

Most of these casinos partnered up with existing E-betting platforms to help with the launch. Out of the seven, only the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City was not allowed to open full legal online casino games due to unreported issues. The casino will likely work out the kinks and re-open its platform next week.

The Tropicana, Trump Plaza, Bally’s Atlantic City, Borgata, Trump Taj Mahal, and Caesars have 13 online betting sites between them. This launch marks the end of a year-long battle between casinos, advocacy groups, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Christie signed a bill earlier this year that allowed the Division of Gaming Enforcement to begin creating online betting regulations. Now with the trial period at an end, the state is ready to pull new sources of gambling revenue.

Since 2006, New Jersey has seen a $2.2 billion decrease in gambling revenue. Now at $3 billion, the state projects at least a 33 percent increase due to online betting. More state revenue means more jobs, more educational programs, and improved infrastructure. The job creation extends to the online betting operators and development companies as well.

For gamblers on the inland-side of New Jersey, driving to Atlantic City for a gambling trip is no longer necessary. Many gamblers would go out of state due to the distance, though gambling websites that accept USA players afform them the luxury of not having to drive or get a room.

Historically, gamblers resorted to off-shore online betting sites. While there is only a minor risk for people betting on unregulated sites, the state’s push for legal online betting will keep gambling revenue within the state. Legalizing E-betting also allows states to regulate who is gambling, how much they are spending, and deal with any illicit concerns. Most importantly, online betting is in the favor of the people as much as it is the casinos.
