First Stadium Sportsbook Launches In The Nation’s Capital

  • The first bets were made by season ticket holders from each team that players in the complex’s inaugural year.
  • The permanent location of this sportsbook is under construction and will open in the Fall of this year pending approval.

WASHINGTON - William Hill opened the first legal sports betting location in Washington D.C. on Monday and first ever in a professional sports complex in the county.

Currently, the legal sportsbook is temporarily being operated in Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s Capital One Arena Box Offices as professional sports restart around the country.

CDC-recommended guidelines will be in place for guests while at the sportsbook that has seven ticket windows and 10 kiosks and is open every day of the week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

“Washington, D.C. is known for its dedicated sports fans, and we’re excited to finally bring them a new way to engage with their favorite teams. Being the first to open a retail location in a professional sports venue wouldn’t be possible without our relationship with Ted Leonsis and his team at Monumental,” said Joe Asher, CEO of William Hill US. “Our teams are working hard to finalize the permanent sports book, restaurant and bar concept we originally envisioned inside the arena.”

Season ticket holders from the first season of the three of the professional sports franchises in DC were the first to place bets in the new sportsbook on Monday morning.

Mr. David Feldman (Capitals), Ms. Angela Tilghman (Mystics), and Mr. David Dwornik (Wizards) each placed varying wagers on their respective teams, using numbers with meaning to each of them.

The construction of the permanent sportsbook that will feature full-service food and beverage offerings, along with premium William Hill sports betting facilities.

The temporary sportsbook will operate until it can permanently open up the legal gambling location in Capital One Arena in the fall of 2020 if approved.
