BILOXI, Miss. - The Broadwater Development group is looking to build the most expensive casino and resort in South Mississippi with their $1.1 billion proposal.

The site of the possible property is at the former site of the Broadwater Beach Resort and the size of the development is going to be 266 acres.

The developers are hoping that not only they get approved but that they also qualify for the Mississippi Tourism Project Incentive Program.

They will be able to be a part of the program being that they have the amenities required to do so like a hotel, marina, golf course and a $10 million investment that is also required.

If the proposal is approved, this would make it the 13th hotel and casino where legal gambling can be found in Coastal Mississippi.

If and when this project gets approved it would make it the most expensive casino and resort built in South Mississippi.

Other projects that have come close to that are the Beau Rivage Resort that came out to $800 million and the Tivoli Casino at $1 billion but was not developed in Biloxi.

There are other requirements that the development group must meet in order for them to get approved.

They are required to invest a minimum of $40 million in building and land costs and they also need to put in $150,000 into each hotel room that is built. Once they do that and get their approval, they will get around an 80% reduction in sales tax.

The Biloxi City Council is prepared to decide the fate of the project on Tuesday, June 16.
