ELIZABETH, Ind. – Caesars will open a new hotel and casino in the Southern Indiana area, officially closing the Glory of Rome riverboat casino. The grand opening of the casino will be on December 12. The location is being remodeled where over 80,000 square feet on just one level will be dedicated to gambling.

The casino itself will not feature as much as the Glory of Rome did, as it will be equipped with fewer games than the riverboat and only occupy one floor rather than four. The new venue, costing Caesars $90 million to build, will require further construction expecting to last for about four months after the initial opening.

The new construction will include restaurants and a walkway that will connect the casino to the hotel. When it’s fully done, there will be 110,000 square feet, leaving 30,000 square feet unfinished while the venue is opened to the public for betting.

The riverboat casino has been listed for sale at the price of $6 million. It is expected to sell quickly, at the Glory of Rome provided its gambling services on the Ohio River for over 20 years. The casino was able to bring in a revenue of about $16 million in October alone. That was more money than any other casino in Indiana for the month, making their closing a bittersweet one.

Caesar’s new location will have over 1,200 slot machines and at least 16 poker tables. They will also have about 70 other types of table games available to bettors. The riverboat had over 100 games and more than 1,500 slot machines as well as 30 poker tables. Still, with the branding of the Caesars name and atmosphere, it will make this new facility a welcome and lucrative addition to Indiana.
