PHILADELPHIA — With the coronavirus pandemic forcing all land-based casinos to close, revenue figures for online casinos in Pennsylvania have risen to record-setting numbers. The revenue has nearly doubled since the virus outbreak.

Pennsylvania Online Casinos

There are currently seven legal gambling sites available for Pennsylvania residents. They offer mostly slots and table games. PokerStars is also the only online poker site available in Pennsylvania as well.

According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), the revenue numbers for Pennsylvania online casinos and PokerStars have hit all-time high numbers. Since the start of 2020 and the virus outbreak, the numbers have gone up every month.

The seven online casinos in Pennsylvania are:

  • SugarHouse and BetRivers
  • Hollywood Casino
  • Parx Casino
  • PokerStars Casino
  • Unibet
  • FanDuel Casino
  • Bet America

Of these casinos, FanDuel is the newest as they launched in January and have hit the ground running. They immediately jumped to the top spot for table games. They earned a gross revenue of $1.7 million in just eight days of business in January with $84.7 million wagered.

In February, which was their first full month open, they had $278 million wagered on their site bringing in $6.1 million in revenue. March had similar numbers for them as they had $43.8 million in bets from slots and $206.8 million from table games.

FanDuel’s table games were responsible for 42.5% of all table game revenue across Pennsylvania.

In terms of all online casinos, in January alone, together they brought in $11.8 million in revenue which is nearly $4 million more than they did in December of 2019. In February and March, however, their 2020 revenue from January nearly doubled. February brought in $17.6 million and March brought in $21.1 million. The revenue for slot games in March was $12.4 million and $8.8 from table games.

Online poker has been on the rise as well. In January, PokerStars brought in $2.1 million in revenue, but February saw a slight dip at $1.8 million in revenue. March, however, saw an increase to $3.1 million.

All in all, states that do offer online gaming can be happy with the revenue being brought in from this offering, but it will not nearly make up the revenue that is lost with the closure of their land-based casinos.
